Humanists UK Darwin Day Lecture

  • Moseley Exchange 149–153 Alcester Road, Moseley Birmingham United Kingdom (map)

At our February meeting we’ll be watching together Humanists UK’s Darwin Day Lecture. Under the title ‘Humanity’s superpower’, Dr Rebecca Wragg Sykes will explore key aspects in human evolution that go beyond intelligence and technology, to consider the origins of our other – and perhaps most important – 'superpowers': collaboration, compassion and the arts. In particular, the world of the Neanderthals – our best known and closest relatives – shows us a parallel path in humanity, even as new understandings of their fate, and of the humans who met them in Eurasia, may hold many lessons in how we face up to future challenges beyond any our ancestors could have imagined.

Do come and join us. Please note the earlier start time – the lecture itself starts at 7.30pm, but we’ll be there from 7.00 onwards, to get set up and to chat and socialise beforehand.

Please note that we sometimes take photographs at our events, for use on our website and in our newsletter. If you do not wish your image to be used in this way, please let us know
